Unwavering Faith: An Adoption Story

The journey to parenthood is different for every family. For David and Myranda Reeves, it began with eight painful years marked by infertility, miscarriages, and a potential adoption that ultimately ended in disappointment. Despite the immense sadness, their trust in the Lord remained unwavering. They knew God would open the right door in his perfect time, but they never would have guessed it would happen quite like this.

When a relocation led them from Kansas to Texas, the Reeves immediately plugged in at Oaks Church because they knew it had a strong foster care and adoption ministry. After a year of settling in and healing from another miscarriage, they began inquiring about adoption and taking the steps to finish their foster care license. They didn’t realize it at the time, but their waiting was about to end.

Little Davey was three months old and living in foster care after being left at the hospital by his mother. As his caseworker diligently worked to find a forever home for him, it became clear that David and Myranda were a perfect fit. In what can only be described as a miracle, the Reeves completed their licensing process in just three weeks, and on March 9, 2022, he was placed with them.

Six months later, to the day, the family gathered in the Reeves’ living room to witness the virtual yet no less official adoption of sweet Davey!

Then, in October 2024, David and Myranda received an unexpected call. Another baby was abandoned at the hospital. He was Davey’s biological brother. “Would you be able to take him?” the caseworker asked.

Myranda’s head began spinning—“We don’t have any baby stuff! Tomorrow? What are we going to do? And then the church stepped in. That night, everything the Reeves needed—stroller, car seat, clothes, diapers, —was delivered to their home. And just 16 hours after the first phone call, baby Benji was in their home and introduced to his big brother.

On October 10, the Reeves officially became a family of four! When asked what she would tell other families considering adoption, Myranda didn’t hesitate. “Your story isn’t going to look like anyone else’s. Even our two adoption stories are completely different. But God is in control, and you can trust Him.”
